There’s no way to fully describe the feeling of spending months, maybe years, preparing for an audition only to be disappointed with the outcome. I think this is a feeling all dancers can relate to. But like Courtney’s shares, everything happens for a reason, and it’s not by chance.
God’s timing is a tricky thing. We live in a world today that values quick response, quick results and convenience. Sometimes the hardest lesson to learn, myself included, is patience. But we can lean on the promise that God has a perfect plan for each and every one of us.
Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Often, what we have planned for ourselves pales in comparison to what God has planned for us. The main reason is that our perspective sees the “now” and God’s perspective sees the big picture. Rest assured there is hope for a bright future.
The audition process is no easy task. It involves a tremendous amount of vulnerability, bravery and hard work. I applaud anyone willing to put themselves out there to achieve their dreams. You’re already ahead of so many people. If there is anything I have learned from the process its perseverance. I have learned how to be strong in the face of challenge. I have learned to find my identity in Christ and Christ alone. And I have learned to understand that God’s timing is perfect.
For all the ladies who are going through the audition process, don’t give up! If it doesn’t work out this year, try again next year. Or perhaps lean in to what God’s telling you. Courtney thought she knew how to achieve her dream, but God led her in a different direction. She can now say that she understands how and why things happened differently.
